MISSION STATEMENT

OF THE TRIBUNAL

The Diocesan Tribunal has as its mission to carry out the judicial processes of the Church.  In exercising this Office, the tribunal personnel primarily are involved with marriage annulments, that is, determining whether a failed marriage was a true marriage as described by the Church.  In this role, the staff strives to treat all persons, no matter what their religious tradition, with dignity and respect.

In addition, the canon lawyers serve as canonical consultants for the Diocese and are especially concerned with upholding the rights of all persons in the Church.

The Office of the Marriage Tribunal of the Diocese of Lexington is designed to help the divorced and remarried person, the divorced person seeking another marriage, and the divorced Catholic seeking a clarification of his or her standing in the Church. Every day, the Tribunal gets asked a great many questions about this subject, and so we have reproduced the most common questions and their answers on this website for you to look at. Questions such as:

  • Why Must Divorced Non-Catholics Obtain A Catholic Declaration Of Nullity Or Dissolution Before Marrying A Catholic?
  • Does A Formal Declaration Of Nullity Affect The Legitimacy Of Children?
  • Is Testimony Kept Confidential?

If these are among some of the questions you have asked, then please click on the "Questions Page" and see the answers we have prepared. There are many other questions and their answers available as well. If you still have other questions that are not covered on this website, then please call us at the Catholic Center: (859) 253-1993, or you can send an email, and we will do our best to answer them. We look forward to the opportunity to serve you. God bless you.
